The first chapter is all about the beginnings of print making, as well as Gutenberg and fonts. I found the information basic and was simply revision to what I already knew. In the second they discuss printing techniques, the machines, the many glitches, and the ink issues, especially with the environment. By the third we are introduced to paper issues, how the binding will affect the finished look.
I found the text extremely easy to read and follow, and useful for those who are just beginning to use print. It also made me aware of how graphic designers have huge responsibilities at the finished product of a document. I can understand why it would be this way, because our job is to create a tactile object. However, we are generally trained to create images and harmonize them with text, we are not trained to be print-makers, which makes assumptions unfair. Pessimism would probably take over and make me say that things will all end up being done by us in the end, no matter what we say, but who knows?

The readings - week 3
I was really happy to get my hands on the AIGA readings. I obviously knew some of the topics at hand, regarding fonts, copyrights and such, but I appreciated the ethics principles, and also the forms they give you. A must have for any designer.
The SAPPI readings were more of a rescue guide, for when one would need print help. Also useful if ever you get stuck on why you're getting a bad print. But what I mostly loved was the color swatches from the combination of CMYK.
The Transcontinental documents I did not find as interesting, though again I would refer to them for future use.

3d Maquette - week 2
- Harmful factory smoke from factories: creating neutralizing rooms to reduce their effects on the air.
- Promoting the construction of completely eco-friendly homes.
But really, I've always wanted to swim in my own river. Yeah it looks dirty, and most people would think it is, but apparently it isn't. Basically, I would like to promote Montreal beaches and bathing areas, and/or create some more and promote them, through billboards, newspaper ads, and maybe even commercials?
The target audience for this is mostly adults, who are the least aware of these facts. Families with children, and seniors are more likely to be informed. However we would still try to target everyone. More research will follow:)

Just got the book - week 1
"getting it right in print"
it looks interesting. I believe I have to explain my knowledge at the end of each chapter!
